November 9 Devotionals: The True Source of Happiness

Who or what is your source of happiness?

Obvious reasons for happiness:
1. Money and everything that goes with it
2. Family, friends
3. Events, happenings
4. Achievements, success
5. Fame and popularity
6. Hobbies, toys, games
7. Food

Those things mentioned above are neutral things, neither good or evil, however , they become a snare, when they are take the place of the one who can only give true joy and happiness, the reason why all of the above can’t is because they only bring temporal and not lasting happiness……only God can.

Psalm 149:2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
let the people of Zion be glad in their King.

You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalm 16:11 NIV)

The psalmist gives us the reasons why we rejoice in the Lord
1. The Lord delights in His people and gives the humble victory Psalm 149:4
2. The Lord alone has promised eternal lie and everlasting companionship, where His presence is the source of fullness of joy Psalm 16:11
Path of life
Joy in His presence
Eternal pleasures

Since these are eternal truths, all the others mentioned above are bonuses from God, so one should not forget to lift up his eyes to things above and look forward to that day, when he will be with the Lord and enjoy Him

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4 NIV)
