December Devotional: Christmas, Season to Celebrate Hope

Image

It is but natural to hope and dream for something good, pleasant and a bright future. However, simply hoping doesn’t guarantee that it may come to pass. Hence, the world hopes for the best, but many times encounters disappointments and even hopelessness.

Is there hope then? Yes, there is !
“The world hopes for the best, Jesus offers the best hope”
Jesus was born to bring back hope to this world, let us place our hope in Him, then we shall never be disappointed!

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:5 NKJV)

Day 1 Hope for the Sinners
The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,  so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:20, 21 NIV)
The world in sin is bound like a slave to its passions and desires, dragged by sin to her eternal separation from God, but Jesus came to give hope to sinners, to release them from bondage.
Let us pray that the message of hope might reach many sinners, including friends, relatives, colleagues and neighbors.

Day 2 Hope for broken dreams
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the  Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)
Many people start their life with hopes and dreams, a better life , a bright future and great ministries, but, because of inevitable circumstances, dreams shatter like glass, hopes are deferred. But God restores and works all things together for the good of those who love Him and called according to His purpose.
Let us pray for those who have lost their dreams to hold on to God’s promises and allow Him to turn things around for them.

Day 3 Hope for damaged relationships
So he got up and went to his father.  “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.  For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. (Luke 15:20, 24 NIV)
For various reasons, relationships are constantly challenged, marriages break, children rebel, parents abandon ship, lives are scarred and many feel hopeless. But with God nothing is impossible, just as the father and son reconciled, let us pray that people with damaged relationships find hope in God.

Day 4 Hope for the Jobless, Unstable income and Low income.
“As surely as the  Lord  your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”       She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. (1 Kings 17:12, 15 NIV)
Life may be tough for many, specially for people in the developing world, bringing food daily to the family table is a great hurdle leaving many feeling hopeless. But God is able to provide food even in the wilderness!
Let us pray that people may place their trust in the loving Father and see how good He is as a provider.

Day 5 Hope for Those in Governance
For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. Romans 13:4a
Serving as a public servant is first of all is by divine appointment and has many obstacles. Sometimes the needs and issues are so huge leaving them feeling helpless thus affecting their constituents. Let us pray that public servants may find confidence in God and that He may enable them to lead for the good of others.

Day 6 Hope for the Discouraged
but those who hope in the  Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NIV)
All of us are prone to lose courage when facing life’s issues, the scenario maybe different but all the same, discouragement sometimes comes in like a flood. Let us pray for those who are discouraged to find new hope and strength in The Lord

Day 7 Our blessed Hope
while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, (Titus 2:13 NIV)
Let us pray and thank God as we are reminded that all things on earth are temporal, one day we will go to our real home, so let’s keep His hope alive in our hearts. Amen !
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 NKJV)

August 2012 Devotional: FELLOWSHIP

God always wanted a family, He created man and woman in His image, to reflect His family in heaven on earth. Satan, God’s enemy tempted man to sin and sin has broken that plan, resulting to broken relationships first of all, between man and God and between men. However, God, in His great mercy and grace sent His Son to destroy the works of the devil 1 John 3:8 , to restore relationship with God Romans 5:1-2 ; Col.1:19-20 and reconciliation between men through the Cross. Eph.2:14-16

This week, let us focus and pray for the strengthening of fellowship bonds among God’s children, so that God’s family in Christ advances His kingdom of joy, peace and Righteousness in the Holy Spirit as a shining light that brings hope to a lost and broken world!

Day 1 The Cross I Please read Hebrews 10:19-23
Vertical fellowship: First things first, the most important relationship that we can have is with God through Jesus Christ, let us pray that we may treasure this privilege, pray that to draw near to God. Would be our first and highest priority in life. To glorify and enjoy Him.

Day 2 The Cross 2 Please read Hebrews 10:24-25
Horizontal fellowship: Not only are we reconciled to God, but one to another, let us pray that we may fellowship to stir up one another towards love and good works, encourage one another to focus on our blessed hope, the glorious appearing of Jesus Christ.

Day 3 Fellowship : Reflecting peace and gratitude
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Col.3:15
As God’s children, we are peacemakers, let us pray that all unresolved conflicts among God’s children be resolved for the sake of His name, also that it is the evidence of Christ’s rule in our hearts. Let us be thankful that this is made possible through the cross of Jesus.

Day 4 Fellowship : Sharing the riches of God’s word with one another
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom Col.3:16
God’s word provide not only knowledge but has the power to change lives. Let us pray that we may to learn and choose to live God’s instructions for us individually and corporately, so that relationships among the brethren become richer and stronger.

Day 5 Fellowship : Worshipping God together, thanking and reflecting on His goodness
through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him Col.3:17
Worshiping and thanking God are the truest expression of hearts that have been reconciled to God, let us pray that as we worship and thank God together, God’s ” inhabiting “presence come and His glory Manifests in our midst and draw people to our loving and glorious God.

Day 6 Fellowship :  Marital harmony
Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Col.3:18-19
One basic picture of fellowship is the marriage relationship, where two persons united in God becomes one, let us pray that Christian marriages reflect Jesus, and for husbands and wives to graciously involve and fulfill their respective roles and responsibilities  in a give and take relationship.

Day 7 Fellowship  : Family solidarity, a haven for Children
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Colossians 3:20
Why does God want children to obey their parents? Because, parents were given the task to teach their children God’s instructions on how to maintain a good relationship with God and other people. Let us pray that Christians parents may lovingly and patiently instruct the little ones His words and pray also  that our children may obey and please the Lord.
“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. ” (1 John 1:3 NIV)

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Mark 1:16 -17
Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. John 8:31
Discipleship is believing and following the teachings and lifestyle of the teacher. Jesus calls us to follow Him, this week let our prayer focus be, Lord, help me to be like you in all areas of my life.

Day 1 Following Jesus in intimacy with the Father
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35
Jesus walked with the Father and knows His mission on earth, the secret of His life is tied up to His Relationship with the Father, so He taught His disciples to pray…..Our Father, who art in heaven….. Let us pray that our earthly journey may also be an intimate walk with the Father through Jesus Christ.

Day 2 Following Jesus in hearing God’s voice
Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. John 7:16
“Whoever belongs to God hears what God says.” John 8:47a
Through Faith in Jesus Christ, we belong to the Father, it is our privilege to hear from Him, let us pray that in our intimacy with the Father that hearing His voice becomes natural In our daily walk just like Jesus.

Day 3 Following Jesus in doing the Father’s work
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. John 5:19
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father John 14:12
When we walk in intimacy with the Father, like Jesus, He will show us what to do ….Let us pray that mighty works will be done in Jesus name for the glory of the Father, let healings, miracles, deliverance, salvation be a norm in our lives.

Day 4 Following Jesus in humility
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Philippians 2:5,8
One of the most amazing truth about Jesus is that He is God and humble!
This humility reflected in His obedience and dependence on the Father, let us pray that we may follow Jesus in His example of humility, live a life of dependence on God’s grace and obedience to His will.

Day 5 Following Jesus in purity and holiness
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:15, 16 NIV)
Jesus lead a sinless perfect life as He walked in intimacy with the Father, let us pray when temptation comes our way that like Jesus we can approach God’s throne to receive grace and mercy helping us to overcome!

Day 6 Following Jesus in the Spirit- filled life
For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit John 3:34
…..Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive…….. John 7:37-39
Following Jesus means to live a Spirit filled life, let us pray that we may live a Spirit filled life by coming to Jesus on a daily basis, “drinking” from the living water that He offers to us.

Day 7 Following Jesus in agape love for God’s family and the lost world
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
John 13:34-35
Let us pray that the love we receive from Jesus be shared among us disciples ,in doing so the lost world will see Jesus and be saved.

The world is facing most probably the biggest crises today, more earthquakes and tsunamis, wars and rumors of wars, famine, diseases unheard of in the past, economic recessions, resulting to despair, destructions and deaths.
Let us remember that in every crisis, it is an opportunity for Christ to shine, the harvest is ripe!

Day 1 The Lord’s appointment
“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” Luke 10:1

Let us pray that we may understand our role and appointment as forerunners for the Lord, when we go to the place or a person where He sent us, He himself is with us and will visit the place.

Day 2 More workers
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2

Since the harvest is large, there is a need for more workers in the field, let us agree with Jesus and pray for more laborers

Day 3 Wisdom and training
Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road. Luke 10:3

Let us pray that more of God’s children would volunteer to be trained and gain wisdom on how to share the gospel to the lost, beginning with their loved ones.

Day 4 Be a blessing
“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. Luke 10:5-6

Let us pray that all who shall go to be a blessing to all they meet, to proclaim that peace with God is now made available through Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1-2

Day 5 Establish friendship
“Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house. “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. ” Luke 10:7-8
Let us pray that the workers may establish a relationship with them through the love of Christ in their hearts and be sensitive to their needs

Day 6 Serve the people
“Heal the sick who are there” Luke 10:9a
Let us pray for our workers to be empowered with the Holy Spirit to be effective witness and demonstrate the power of God in healing the sick in the Name of Jesus. Acts 1:8; Mark 16:16-19

Day 7 Proclaim the Kingdom gospel
And tell them, The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ Luke 10:9b

Let us pray for boldness to proclaim the Kingdom gospel, in this appointed time, in. World full of crises, Christ shall shine the most!
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14 NIV)

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor. 15:54-57

Day 1 Proclaim the Risen Lord. ….. He is risen! Then He said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:46, 47 NKJV) Let us pray that the message of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ be preached to the whole world.

Day 2 Power over sin: One of the blessings of Christ’s resurrection is power over sin, 1 Cor.15: 56 Let us pray that every believer would allow this resurrection life to overcome all sins.

Day 3 Power over death: 1Cor.15:54-55, For centuries, man has been powerless over death and has been imprisoned by the fear of death, but now, because of Christ’s resurrection, death has been swallowed up in victory! Let us pray that we may not be afraid to proclaim the good news in “difficult” areas, but allow the Holy Spirit to work through us to fearlessly With wisdom to proclaim the good news.

Day 4 Power over the enemy: 1 Cor.15:55b, O , hades where is your victory ? Jesus said, He will build His Church and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it. Matt.16:18, Let us pray that the Church may realize that she is God’s instrument to overpower the enemy and His works through the Name of Jesus Christ, the risen Lord.

Day 5 Message of hope: To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Col.1:27 As the old song goes, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow” ….Let us pray first of all, that all believers would rejoice in the living hope we have in Christ, and secondly, that we may share this hope to those who feel hopeless because of God’s absence in their lives.

Day 6 Message of peace: Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace be with you. John 20:19
Fear, anxiety, sorrows, loneliness are all manifestations of the absence of peace in one’s life. Let us pray that the knowledge of the Resurrection of Jesus would reassure and grant peace to our hearts.

Day 7 Message of encouragement: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor. 15:57, 58 Because Jesus rose from the dead, He is coming back to take His beloved home Just as He promised, John 14:1-2 Let us therefore pray that we may continue
to serve our Lord until He takes us home!

Devotionals for March: The Kingdom of Peace

Romans 14:17 ” For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit
Before Jesus came, Isaiah prophesied and called Him, the prince of peace and endless rule of His government of peace
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. Isaiah 9:6, 7a
What is peace? Peace is union with God, Peace is Jesus!
The consequence of salvation is a blessed peace, let us bring the Gospel of Peace ( Eph. 6:15) to this world

Because of reconciliation, once enemies, now friends, God’s peace dwell in our hearts. It’s a peace that transcends beyond understanding, Phil.4:7
Let us pray that all believers continue to allow God’s peace to rule their hearts in all areas and circumstances of their lives, for peace serves as a testimony to those who don’t have it.

Day 3 Peace within
Eph.2:14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility
Because Jesus is our peace, we are at peace with ourselves in Him. In Christ, one finds an inner peace brought about by the restoration of dignity that was lost because of sin.

In Christ, enemies are reconciled, breaking the walls of hostility, thereby pursuing peace with one another, Peacemaker is the mark of a child of God. This peace opens the door to personal evangelism.
Let us pray that we will see our neighbors as people who are lost without Christ and they need to be reached. Let us also pray that God’s people will pursue peace with one another at all cost, for this is the MARK of God’s children and our testimony to the world.

Day 5 Peace and preservation of nature
Psalm 23:2-3a He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.
Nature reflects the glory of God and a blessing to serve mankind.

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Let us pray for our participation in the fulfillment of the great commission, bringing the message of reconciliation to all the nations, so that all the earth shall experience peace. When Jesus comes, He shall rule in peace!

As we ponder on the lives of people who by God’s grace have worshiped and left a legacy, let us pray that we too may live a life of true worship, for these are the kinds of worshipers the Father is seeking for. Let us follow their legacy of faith which pleased God and served as a light to many generations.

This world desperately needs to see a light, may God’s life shine through us as we worship Him and guide those in darkness to the light of life.
“ In Him was life and that life was the light of all mankind” John 1:4

Day 1 Abel : Worship is offering our best.
Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous…….. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.

February 1-7 Devotionals: True Worship

pixRomans 12:1-2 True Worship
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God

This passage is one of the clearest descriptions of what worship is, Jesus came to re-affirm the 1st command of God, which is to have no other gods and to worship Him alone Exo.20:3; Matt.4:10

As believers, we are privileged to experience the richness of true worship in Spirit and in truth John 4:23-24 Let us pray that worshiping God becomes our lifestyle, that the Lord be glorified In all areas of our lives.

Worship is:
Day 1 A response to God’s mercy. ( I beseech you brethren, by the mercies of God )
Let us pray to have a deeper understand of the mercies of God, to receive them daily, worship God as a result and reflect God’s mercy in our lives as believers.
Lam.3:22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

Day 2 : An offering ( that ye present )
Let us pray that worship becomes our lifestyle, knowing that everything we do with the right motive become our offering to God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Day 3. A living proof ( your bodies a living sacrifice )
Let us pray that we offer our bodies as instruments of righteousness, with righteous living and righteous deeds.
Romans 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Day 4 Living holy lives ( Holy and acceptable to God )
Let us pray that as God’s people, we may see that holiness is our privilege and to be able to live holy lives reflecting Jesus Christ is a great blessing from the Lord.
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Day 5 Separation ( be not conformed to this world )
Let us pray that our lives would be separated wholly for for His love, plans and purposes, that we would love not the things of this world.
1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Day 6 Transformation ( by the renewing of your mind )
Let us pray that our lives constantly change from glory to glory as we make the choice to meditate on the eternal words of God.
Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Day 7 Service ( Doing the good, acceptable and perfect will of god )
Let us pray that we may live a life of service, serving the purposes of God,
Worship, Evangelism and missions, fellowship, ministry and discipleship.
Matt 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you……

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV)

The Bible clearly teaches that God created man to have fellowship with Him. 1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

To fellowship with a glorious God, He gave man His image and likeness. Gen.1:26 As children of God through faith in Jesus Christ, we have the blessed privilege of bearing the image of God in us, hallelujah!
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. (Romans 8:29 NIV)

This week let us contemplate His glory and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus, so that our fellowship with Him becomes more intimate than before, let us behold Him and be transformed into His image from glory to glory.

Day 1 January 16 ( Monday ) Creation
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. (Psalm 19:1, 2 NIV)

Creation speaks of the glory of God, this week, let us observe everything that surround us, be amazed at our wonderful Creator and rise up in thanksgiving and praise, let us pray that each one may see God’s glory in creation. Let us pray that creation worshipers may be set free and give glory to the Creator.

Day 2 January 17 ( Tuesday ) Jesus Christ
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:15, 16 NIV)

Back home, when the “ber” months set in, we begin to see familiar sights everywhere: Christmas decors, lights , lanterns , trees etc. just to ” brighten up the season”, a common sight would be children going house to house caroling, amusingly, they’re willing to risk being scolded just to receive simple gifts like candies or few coins, but sadly, most of these kids don’t really know what Christmas is all about. It seems like modern man have drifted away from the true essence of Christmas , this week let us focus and pray that the whole world may hear and understand the true message of Christmas , the reason for the season.
